Houses and Cars

So todays post is going to be a little bit off topic but pertinent to the rest of my life..you know the part that doesn't totally revolve around IF..haha..I know SURPRISE I do have a life otherwise too..lol

We have been talking a lot about buying a little piece of land and buying a house not tomorrow but would definitely be something we would like to happen before are bringing babies home from the hospital ya know?

We agree about a few things but not most of them as far as size..well lets face it he is cheap..but he is having a hard time understanding that the cost of moving in 5 years because we have outgrown a house is more expensive than spending a little extra now to be in a house we won't outgrow so quickly. Although at the same time I can understand where he is coming from..lots of options to weigh, lots of pros and cons..guess that means time for a list!! (I truly love lists!)

OH and I will share a few links of the houses we are looking at:

Next week we will be shopping for a car and I hope that we can find one we like quickly and hopefully agree on something without too much sacrafice on either part :)

  1. How wonderful that you are going after these goals as a family, especially the IVF. It's a wonderful and scary time I'm sure, what with all the changes and added costs. Please take what I'm going to share as it comes from a place of caring and love...not at all from a place of "telling you what you should do." You already are doing what's right by clinging to your husband and he to you and both to God, that above all is the most important! :)

It is so important to keep your debt down so you can focus on your dreams of a growing family...money stress can get in the way of that.

Be sure to keep in mind that the less debt the two of you take on the better off you are. Houses can be so expensive if you want it to be "perfect" with all the dream features. Spending a little extra time to find a Hud house or foreclosed home that is 1/2 the price of a 'full market price' home is like getting someone to pay half your mortgage; $150,000 vs $75,000 (as an example)! Think of it as a start-of-season-sales!!

Also, remember that most wealthy people (who don't need to prove their net worth to others) buy a car that's at least two years old. There are a ton of good cars in this range because there are MANY people who feeel they can't buy used...keep up with the Joans's.

Do these two things and you household will take two steps ahead of the majority of the people. Use the money saved for your dream of a family!!! :))

*Remember, you can spend your money any way you want, but you can only spend it once.

  2. Thanks Karen for the input I really appreciate it. We plan to buy used and as far as the house goes we plan to save as much money as possible to have for a down payment PLUS buying the land first..unfortunately the housing market here never crashed (though it needed to because it is soo inflated here) so there aren't many forclosures and though we want to save money we also need to have a house that will be functional for our lifestyle.

  3. I'm sure you'll find just the right one for your (growing) family. Hope the market treats you well in the hunt. :)
